For many years at the end of the last century Dinard enjoyed the status of one of the most popular summer holiday destinations in France.
With its gently slopping sandy beaches, family orientated atmosphere and abundance of seafood and not to mention its proximity to Paris ... it is easy to see why Dinard was so popular, especially amongst families and well to do who made an annual pilgrimage to Dinard. With the regular influx of 'tourists' (even though many had family holiday homes there) the town began to take on 2 very distinct persona's as a vibrant summer holiday destination during July and August and as a well to do market town during the remainder of the year.

Dinard - a Vibrant holiday destination

Whilst Dinard boasts no all night discos or all night drinking venues, it does boast a very vibrant area in the center of town given over to a host of restaurants many of which have large terraces on which to spend a leisurely evening dining with friends. Seafood is a major attraction of the towns along the Breton coast with locally produced Moules and Oysters (many from the famous local oyster beds at Concale) being ever popular during the summer months.
Dinard is home to all types of restaurants ranging from the eclusive 'Hotel de la Barrier' with panoramic views across the Baie de la Rance, to the Casino restaurant overlooking the Plade De l'ecluse to a host of other restaurants in all price brackets, many located around the place de la republique.
After dinner many choose to stroll along Dinard's famous coastal walkways where there are a number of places to purchase coffee and ice-creams and from which you can sit and watch the world passing by.

Dinard - a well to do market town

Dinard is home to a thriving thrice weekly market where all manner of fresh, local produce as well as various other goods are regularly sold.
Purchase vegetables from local farms, locally grown flowers, fish caught by local fisherman as well as local wines and other produce ... all from the local area. Seafood is a speciality of this part of Brittany so it will be no surprise that many types of fresh shellfish, crabs and shrimps as well as fish are all available.
The market runs throughout the year and although it attracts many more people in the summer, remains very popular with locals all year around and many Dinardaise buy the majority of their fresh food there.
